Due to the current restrictions the international economy faces numerous challenges. Academic director of the postgraduate master's program MSc Renewable Energy Systems, Prof. Reinhard Haas, also sees beneficiary effects from the developments, as he explains in an article on futurezone.at from May 1, 2020.

He sees a unique opportunity for matters to move forward and support the international energy transition. He particularly addresses those economic sectors that are heavily dependent on fossil fuels, such as aviation. He is also confident that those working models that have now established themselves out of a necessity (home office instead of daily commuting, video conferencing instead of international flights) will remain and have a long-term impact on the market in favor of a positive energy balance.
