Second Class of the MSc Program "Renewable Energy in Central & Eastern Europe"

Welcome Reception

October 20, 2006 at the Vienna University of Technology

The second class of this outstanding cross-boarder postgraduate master program started at the Vienna University of Technology on October 20th, 2006. A festive ceremony act took place in the evening of first program day at TU Vienna. Numerous well known personalities from the fields of science, economy and research took the opportunity to welcome the students of the second class.

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Gerhard Schimak of the Vienna University of Technology spoke about the history and development of this unique MSc Program.

Dipl-Ing. Josef Plank (member of the provincial government of Lower Austria and Advisory Board Member of the MSc Program) highlighted the progress and success of this master program and the intensive cooperation between the Vienna University of Technology and Energiepark Bruck/Leitha.

The key note speech about "Developments and Trends in Renewable Energy" was held by Dr. Dörte Fouquet, Director of the European Renewable Energy Federation in Brussels.

Among the 90 guests, following members of the Advisory Board attended this ceremony: MR Dr. Gerhard Burian (Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour) and Dipl-Ing. Josef Plank (member of the provincial government provincial government of Lower Austria). Also representatives of the major sponsors of this postgraduate MSc Program (e.g. Raiffeisen Leasing & Raiffeisenlandesbank NÖ-Wien) took part in this event.

Additionally faculty members, representatives from different energy supply companies, from Regional Development Austria and from the Austrian lobby of renewable energy participated in the celebratory Welcome Reception.

Prof.Dr. Helmut Drobir (Academic Director, Vienna University of Technology) and DI Martina Prechtl (Managing Director, Energiepark Bruck/Leitha) moderated this event.

One of the highlights of this evening was the individual presentation of the second class - 23 postgraduate students from Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

We wish these students much success and all the best for their MSc studies within the next four semesters!
