Phenomenal start of the MSc Renewable Energy in CEE

24 participants coming from seven different countries

On October 19th, 2007 the unique cross-border postgraduate Master program started for the third time. The welcome reception took place in the evening of the first program day in the festival room of the Vienna University of Technology. Prof. Dr. Reinhard Haas (Academic Director, Vienna University of Technology) and DI Martina Prechtl (Energiepark Bruck/Leitha) led through the evening and welcomed numerous well known personalities from the field of science, economy and research, i.e. MR Dr. Gerhard Burian (Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour), representatives of the major sponsors of this MSc program (e.g. Raiffeisen Banking Group), members of the faculty and of the Austrian lobby of renewable energy.

The key note speaker Dr. Franz Fischler (President of Eco-social Forum Europe and a member of the Advisory Board of this MSc program) focussed in his speech on the role of renewable energy in European energy politics.

During the ceremonial act it was paid homage to Prof. Dr. Helmut Drobir, the former Academic Director of the MSc program. He played a decisive role in development and implementation of the MSc program “Renewable Energy in Central and Eastern Europe”. Prof. Dr. Bob Martens, the Vice Study Dean for Continuing Education, and Herbert Stava, the Chairman of Energiepark Bruck/Leitha, took the opportunity to thank him for his program merits during the past few years.

The event was accompanied by the Parndorfer tamburizza group “Ivan Vukovic” which captured the audience with its fascinating melodies.

The Welcome Reception was highlighted by the individual presentation of the 23 students with international background, coming from Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Norway, Canada and Iran.
