International Sun Day

May 3rd is the international Sun Day. The Sun Day was created 2007 under the United Nations Environment Program to raise awareness for the importance of the use of renewable solar energy. Solar energy is used worldwide and is increasingly popular for generating electricity or heating and is getting more and more popular worldwide. Especially in Asia (China) the use of solar energy is growing immensely. 17.9% of all renewable energy is generated by solar energy technologies, most of it by photovoltaic plants.

In April and May, Solar Energy is also the main topic in the MSc Renewable Energy Systems, accompanied with sunshine and summer temperatures. In these modules our students learned about the physical principals of solar energy and the planning, construction and implementation of solar energy plants. In tailor-made excursion they experienced the technologies put into practice.
